I can’t help it – I just have one of those faces.\u00a0I stop in a public place for a minute and someone has to tell me their life story.<\/p>\n

different bus, different night…<\/p><\/div>\n

I was riding the bus home the other night. When I got on, this fellow about my age in a baseball cap and a parka was sitting in the long seat by the front and immediately decided to strike up a (loud) conversation with me.<\/p>\n

How are ya, fella? I\u2019m a paranoid-schizophrenic.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not dangerous\u2014just off my meds.\u00a0I ride this bus every day, unless they put me back in Rikers.<\/p>\n

They bother ya, the city. They\u2019re okay if you stay on the meds but you go off? Oh boy.<\/p>\n

What you doing on the bus. You don\u2019t have a car? A license?\u00a0No? You paranoid-schizophrenic? Heroin addict? Crack addict?<\/p>\n

Me: No\u2014just poor.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re not poor. You probably have a condo, a coop, something.<\/p>\n

(Shake my head no)<\/p>\n

Okay, my stop. (gets up, announces to the passengers in general:)<\/p>\n

I\u2019m a paranoid-schizophrenic. I ride this bus every day, unless they put me in Rikers. (gets off)<\/p>\n
